What exactly is film soup?

Film soup is process by which one chemically alters the emulsion of film before exposing it to light by using a variety of substances like citric acid, nail polish remover, vinegar, battery acid, food coloring, soap, and any other number of liquids you seek to expatrient with. The result is film that appears almost pre filtered and abstract. Light leaks, streaking and color blotches are all part of the process and the beauty here.

How do you create your prints?

All these prints originate from chemically altered film called film soup. After being shot on vintage cameras, and developed by hand, the negatives are scanned and then the most minimal of edits are made (talking resizing and formatting for the print on demand market) the colors and imperfections you see in these frames are a direct result of the film and chemistry used in both the pre and post shooting process. As such it is a real luck of the draw how each frame will turn out and what results it will yield.

What makes you different?

Aside from still shooting film, it’s the usage of film soup that sets the studio apart. For those unfamiliar with film soup, it’s a beloved medium that asks you to surrender to the process. There is no real way to control the frames and each is pure magic. You may have an idea of the color pallet that will occur but not where the impressions will occur within the roll.

Can I choose my own poster slogan?
